Timeline generator FAQ
How does the AI build a wedding timeline? The generator combines your wedding date, ceremony time, photography hours, and venue locations with a model trained on real wedding day logistics. It calculates sunset time for your date and location, accounts for drive time between venues, and works backwards from the ceremony to schedule getting-ready, first look, and portraits. The output is a minute-by-minute schedule you can edit, share with vendors, or import into the full Colara workspace.
Is the timeline generator actually free? Yes — generating, previewing, and copying your timeline is free with no payment required. We ask for your name and email when you generate a timeline so we can send it to you and offer a free account where the full planning workspace lives. No credit card is required, and you can use the timeline you generated even if you never sign up.
How accurate are the drive-time estimates? Drive times are pulled from a live mapping service using the venue addresses you enter, so they reflect typical traffic for the time of day. We then add a 25–50% wedding-day buffer because shuttles, late guests, and parking always run slower than expected. If your wedding is in a dense city like Manhattan or San Francisco, we recommend adding an additional 15-minute pad on top of the generator's estimate.
Can I edit the generated timeline? Yes. The preview is fully editable in the Colara workspace, where you can drag events, change durations, add custom items (like a tea ceremony, anniversary toast, or shoe change), assign vendors to each block, and share a clean version with your photographer or coordinator. Without an account you can still copy the generated timeline or email it to yourself; signing up unlocks the editable, vendor-shareable version.
Do I need to know my exact venue addresses? Approximate addresses work fine for a first draft — even just the venue name and city will let the generator estimate distances and sunset time. For the most accurate timeline, enter the full street addresses of the getting-ready location, ceremony venue, and reception venue. If everything is at one venue, just enter that single address and the generator collapses transition buffers automatically.
What happens after I generate the timeline? You'll see the full minute-by-minute schedule on screen. From there you can copy it, email it to yourself, or create a free Colara account to edit it, attach vendors, and turn it into a shareable day-of document with its own link. There's no obligation, and couples regularly use the free generator standalone and never sign up.
